Question 4

(a) Text can be used in both individual and group presentations, but needs to be used differently if its use is to be appropriate. Describe the difference between the appropriate use of text in these two different kinds of presentation. [4]
Single user : extensive text; smaller font size.

Group: minimum text; bullet points or short paragraphs; font size of at least 24 points.

(b) Name the two ways in which fonts can be stored, and explain the differences between them. [6]
Bitmapped fonts.
These hold an array of dots for each character, and must be separately generated for each font size because magnifying/shrinking tends to give very poor quality characters.

Outline fonts.
These are composed of filled-in outlines, which can be built to any particular size as you use them.

(c) List three different types of paragraph formats. For each one you mention, suggest a situation where its use might be most appropriate. [6]
  • left-aligned good for small amounts running text;
  • right-aligned use for artistic impact, with a picture on the right (1);
  • centred good for headings and captions;
  • justified most pleasing to the eye in large amounts of text.

(d) Describe with examples some ways in which text can be adapted to make a text presentation more interesting or memorable. [4]
Add special effects such as animation. Change the font type. Change the font style. Change the font character to something like bold or italic. Change the font mood.
